Acey-Deucey Glossary — terms you will meet at the table

Acey-Deucey carries backgammon's vocabulary plus a few of its own — from the wardroom to the online table, here are the terms you will meet.

Acey-deucey
A roll of 1 and 2: after playing both numbers you name any double, play it, then roll again.
Named double
The double of your choice (1-1 through 6-6) claimed after playing the 1 and the 2. Partially playable, but an unfinished double forfeits the extra roll.
Enter (entry)
Placing a checker from off the board onto a point in the opponent's home board matching a die you rolled.
Blot
A lone checker on a point — exposed to being hit.
Hit
Landing on an opposing blot: the hit checker is sent to the bar.
Bar
The middle ridge where hit checkers wait; they must re-enter the opponent's home board before anything else may move.
Home board
The six points where you collect checkers before bearing off (points 1–6 for white, 19–24 for black).
Bear off
Removing checkers from your home board once all fifteen are there; the first player to bear off all fifteen wins.
Shutout
A win in which the loser bore off nothing — worth the maximum 15 points.
Open point
A point with zero or one opposing checker; two or more make it blocked.
Doubles
A roll such as 4-4, played four times. In the American game a named double from the 1-2 roll is played the same way.
Pips
The total distance your checkers must still travel — a rough measure of who is winning the race.
